Ridley's Scott's film about the Gucci family may be on its way into production with Angelina Jolie according to Variety magazine.

Jolie is said to be in discussion with Scott to play super rich wife Patrizia Reggiano, sentenced to 29 years in jail for ordering the murder of her ex-husband Maurizio Gucci.

Gucci Film About Super Rich

Stories about the proposed movie surfaced in 2007 when Variety reported Scot’s film will " chronicle the wild and glamorous story of the Gucci family in the 1970s and 1980s, when its 153 shops moved $500m in product annually". Variety reported that the film will be ‘cataylzed’ around Maurizio Gucci, the last member of the family to head the group who was murdered outside his office in 1995.

Gucci Protests Gucci Movie

Within 24 hours of the 2007 Variety story, Patricia Gucci, niece of the murdered Maurizio, told the Corriere della Sera newspaper that she felt ‘surprised and upset’ by the news. She told the paper: "The film is not authorised and if it presents the story of our family in an offensive manner, we will try to block it.” Patricia said she had originally believed the film would focus on Maurizio’s father and grandfather, Paolo and Aldo Gucci, rather than Maurizio’s murder.

The Story of Gucci

Guccio Gucci initially worked in London as a waiter at the Savoy Hotel. In 1921 he returned to Florence and opened an upmarket leather goods store. Guccio’s son Aldo branched out into accessories and opened additional shops in Rome and then across the world. Business and personal relationships within the Gucci family were reportedly tense and violent. Aldo was jailed in 1986 at the age of 81 when his own son Paolo reported him to US authorities for tax evasion. Control later passed to Aldo’s brother Rodolfo, then his nephew Maurizio. After a 13-year marriage to Patrizia, Maurizio and Patrizia divorced but Patrizia developed a ‘deep, obsessive hatred’ of her former, super-rich husband according to Sara Gay Forden author of The House of Gucci. Speaking to The Independent Forden said Patrizia was frank about her desire to have Maurizio murdered.

The Gucci Murder

On 27th March 1995 a Sicilian man Benedetto Ceraulo fired four shots in Maurizio’s body and a fifth shot to the head. In 1999 Patrizia was sentenced to 29 years in jail. During her trial Patrizia alleged her personal psychic Pina Auriemma made contact with the killers then blackmailed her into going along with the plot. A 2007 report in The Independent said Patricia remains in jail, suffering from epilepsy, frequently unable to walk.

Scott is best known for his films Alien, Blade Runner and Gladiator. Scott is currently in post-production with the film Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett.
